Inaugural General Meeting

Policy

  1. Respect the regulations of our dependencies
Our space here is subject to:
  2. Express yourself considerately
You have full control over your words prior to saying them. Once spoken or written, they take the journey you cannot control. If you don't want the unpleasant consequences of unpleasant words giving a poor impression of your character to people you (one day might) care about, frontload doing something about that before you say anything.
  3. Prioritise others' safety and welfare
    1. explicitly check for consent before:
      1. physical contact
      2. introducing topics which could reasonably be recognised as upsetting
    2. do not hold bias, discrimination, prejudice, or shame others for any apparent characteristics or assumptions drawn from them (eg: race, gender identity, sexual orientation, circumstances of birth, age, political affiliation, religious affiliation, queer affiliation, appearance, physical or neurodivergent traits, disability, newness to the Society)
    3. try to not interrupt, talk over, dismiss or censor others expressing themselves (even when excited) unless that person is clearly overstepping Policy 3b, above. Executives and Officers have administrative authority over inappropriate messages in the Discord forum but since many of us have experienced censorship as structural violence, we would very much appreciate not having to use this feature
    4. do your best to remember and use each person's preferred name and preferred pronouns
    5. remember that loud noise levels and humour intended in good fun can be disruptive or upsetting for others; be aware of others and exercise discretion
  4. Moderator intervention
    1. Executives and Officers will warn participants who:
      1. violate Policy 3, above
      2. escalate or enflame controversial exchange
      3. make personal insults
    2. Executives and Officers will mute or block participants who:
      1. violate Policy 1, above (if evident)
      2. reoffend after a warning under Policy 4a
      3. expose personal information about a third party without their consent
      4. threaten anyone
      5. (attempt to) scam or spam
and the matter may be escalated to appropriate authorities.
  5. Appeals
Participants may appeal to: in whatever order seems necessary. They are especially encouraged to do so when: Objective evidence (screenshots, photographs, etc.) can help resolve concerns fairly. Misinformation and misrepresentation will be treated seriously.
